Is it True That Emotional Distress Including Stress Can Cause a Miscarriage?

There are many factors that can contribute to a miscarriage, unfortunately most of these contributors are out of the mother’s control.

For many women pregnancy can not only be an exciting time, but a stressful time as well. In 2008, a Danish study of more than 19,000 women found that “those with a high level of psychological stress had an 80 percent greater risk of stillbirth than women who had an intermediate level of stress during pregnancy.”

As a whole this study is not inferring that a quick sudden surprise or a particularly bad week is going to cause a miscarriage but more severe stress like divorce or death in the family may contribute to a miscarriage.

Stress may be unavoidable for many, especially those that have recurrent miscarriage or are suffering from infertility. Trying to reduce stress when possible will make not only a healthier baby, but a healthier mommy as well.  Remember to get enough sleep, eat healthy, drink enough water and do your best. That is all you can do.
