It will be helpful if parents get the chance to see their miscarried baby. Some babies may look quite normal, others maybe small for their gestational age, while others may look deformed.

Unfortunately, not all parents get the chance to see their child even if they wanted to. There are some miscarriages that may pass foetus that are either too small, unrecognizable, or wasn’t there at all.

To name the child is a personal choice which may be clouded with hesitations and fears. When you give the child a name, you not only give it dignity but you also affirm the reality of that child’s existence. Naming the child can also be beneficial as it aids in the grieving process by acknowledging the baby as a person. And later on, when you have come to resolve your grief, you will most probably want to think of the baby by its name.

If choosing a name is quite difficult due to the unidentified gender of the child, you can try using one that applies to both genders. You can also call the baby what you planned to call it along.

If, in the end, you still don’t want to name you baby, then don’t. You can always do it whenever you want to.
